Boat Trailer - 3 Effective Tips For Selecting The Right Accessories!

By Abhishek Agarwal

Hello and welcome to the world of boating and boat trailer accessories: it's a wide, wide world out there with many new and varied trimmings now available for boat owners looking to jazz up their beauties to make sailing adventures funky and functional at the same time. This craving for fun accessories that are transcend the boundaries of mere functionality to also provide a style quotient to the boat is the reason why are thinking beyond comfort in boat trailer accessories and going all out to buy tools they can take with them or just leave on board, in order to simplify life on the moving waters.

Among the many different kinds of boat trailer accessories one can buy is the part that ensures proper anchorage of the boat to the trailer unit; tie downs like the ratcheting hook and latch varieties are a popular trimming option often considered by boat owners looking for family or romantic fun as with more people aboard the boat trailer, accessories become more important.

1. These accessories are useful to stretch across and function as links behind your boat to ensure it stays attached to the trailer unit in case of a problem with breakage of other security device; besides this, owners can look at different kinds of pulleys that can help lift the boat up to the trailer and keep it out of the water. The advantage of such a winch is that this will lock itself in place as the first security measure for a boat that could have floated away if not supported by tie-downs.

2. Useful boat trailer accessories include those that help a boat owner to affix the vessel in case of a need to tow it ashore. The only precaution a boat owner needs to take when buying a hitch is to ensure compatibility of the parts to enable ease in hooking up to prevent anyone from stealing these. Rollers for transferring the boat (so it can slide on to a trailer bed) with minimal risk to the hull are another good idea.

3. For those boat owners looking to perform some necessary boat maintenance operations on the trailer, there are several trailer jacks that are useful for air up or replacing trailer tires and oiling of moving parts; these ensure boat trailers stay in top condition. Support devices for checking light and wiring on the trailer, storage options for seat fabric protectors, a dehumidifier to keep mildew at bay and scraps for basic fabric seat cover repairs are other accessory ideas you can consider.

Chains as good boat trailer accessories that secure the boat are a good choice as are tarpaulin covers for all weather protection for the boat, when not in use.

Boom Brakes & Preventers, Preventing Injuries.

Thu, 20 Dec 2007 16:32:21 +0200
Not wishing to pre-empt the findings of the investigation into the latest tragedy in the ARC rally. But taking a good hard look at preventing injuries from being hit specifically by booms:-

During racing, the controlled gybe manoeuver may be performed many times without the use of a boom preventer - this is understandable. However, when in a cruising mode and when setting a course for a distant destination, is there a good reason for not using a boom preventer, so that if an unplanned gybe occurs - possible injury is averted ????

The cutter is similar to a sloop with a single mast and mainsail, but generally carries the mast further aft to allow for the use of two headsails attached to two forestays, the head stay and the inner stay, which carry the jib and staysail respectively. This is rarely considered a racing configuration; however, it gives versatility to cruising boats, especially in high wind conditions, when a small jib can be flown from the inner stay.

A yacht is a recreational boat. It designates two rather different classes of watercraft, sailing and power yachts. Yachts are differentiated from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose. It was not until the ascendancy of the steamboat and other types of powerboat that sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury items. However, since the level of luxury on larger yachts has seen an increasing trend, the use of the word yacht to mean any sailing vessel has been diminishing and is more and more limited to racing yachts or cruising yachts.

Applications for jetboats include most activities where conventional propellers are also used, but in particular passenger ferry services, coastguard and police patrol, navy and military, adventure tourism (which is becoming increasingly popular around the globe), pilot boat operations, surf rescue, farming, fishing, exploration, pleasure boating, and other water activities where motor boats are used. Jetboats can also be raced for sport, both on rivers and on specially designed racecourses. Many jetboats are small enough to be carried on a trailer and towed by car. Recently there has been increasing use of jetboats in the form of rigid-hulled inflatable boats and as luxury yacht tenders.

'Bright Twist' on Boat Lettering and Night Safety

By William Agreste

New boat lettering technology combines proven light reflective technology with the time honored tradition of displaying a boat name on the transom of boats and ships. In daylight, reflective boat lettering looks like ordinary boat lettering with the exception there is a visible depth to the color and tone. At night, this lettering reflects your position on the waterway with even the smallest amount of light cast from an approaching boat. Under searchlight, you can see the reflective boat name lettering from miles away under clear conditions.

For maximum conspicuity, reflective boat lettering on the transom along with reflective registration numbers on the sides provides nearly 360 degree visibility. You can also add reflective boat graphics or reflective pin striping in widths up to 2 inches as a color accent to your boat. You can be very creative with reflective products beyond the simple addition of reflective boat lettering decals. There is a very wild example of being creative with reflective boat lettering with the addition of reflective boat graphics.

See 'The Party Hut' pontoon boat on display at: http://www.streetglo.net/custom-boat-name-decal-photos.html

This recently refurbished pontoon boat takes on a new an extrodinary life with style and safety using reflective safety vinyl. You can visit your local vinyl fabricator or shop for reflective boat lettering online. There are several firms that specialize only in reflective products.

For additional night safety precautions, you might want to also check your boat now for the necessary night safety equipment. You should check your flares to make sure they have not become older than the expiration date on the packaging.

You should also check out the new battery free flashlights to insure you always have a source of light when and if your electrical system should fail. On my boat, I have two of these battery free flashlights - fore and aft. You simply shake these flashlights for 30 seconds and youll have 5 minutes of light and never worry about keeping your batteries replaced.

With the boating season only a few months away, now is the time to prepare for all those wonderful boating day and nights soon to be upon us boaters.

Happy Boating!

Hints On used seadoo

One very important feature of the jetboat is the fact that it has no external rotating parts; it is essentially safe for swimmers and marine life, excluding being struck by the hull. This in itself can be reason enough to use this type of propulsion.

If you are planning on buying a fishing boat then there are a wide variety of choices which depend on the type of fishing you are planning to do. If you require a boat to flyfish from in a resevoir or lake then the fisher range from MCA Boats may suit your needs. For sea fishing the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 625 or the Orkney range of boats with their more traditional shape could be considered. There are also larger boats like the Scanfisher. Larger seafishing boats are built with comfort in mind and therefore spacious outside areas and cockpits are provided along with well kitted out galleys and cabins.

Yacht "No Komis" Epirb Activated - Indonesia

Thu, 6 Dec 2007 10:43:49 +0200
We just got this message from a friend's wife. Her husband's EPIRB (Yacht NO KOMIS) went off and he dropped off the nets and e-mail. The local SAR does not seem to have many assets/capabilities. 5 Tips to Buy a Boat

By Sandeep R

Its good the internet spews out reliable information whenever they needed one. Buying a used boat is tricky business you will not be buying just the boat, but also its ills. Here are 5 spots you should examine before you hand over your check:

Check the hours on the boat. Boats with more than 400 hours on them would already incur high maintenance cost.

Check the exterior - Look for signs of accidents like a scrape on the paint, or wood blisters. The hull should be hard with no sign of rot, and should not give off a hollow sound when you tap on it. Check on the propeller for any signs of cracks. Is it deformed? Can you see a scratch?

Check the interior - Is there radio equipment on the boat? You will need this for emergency, besides, marine law requires it. Are there life vests, too?

Check on the boats upholstery - You may incur additional cost on tear and wear you would not like your boat to look shabby, would you?

The floor should have carried well and should not show any sign of rot. Presence of mildew on wall crevices, or on the floors indicates vulnerable spots for decay.

Check on maintenance - Is the warranty still up? What major repairs were done to the boat? How many maintenance checks does the boat get every year? Who does the repairs and maintenance? Where is the boat stored while its not at sea? Hire the services of a marine mechanic to check on the boats mechanical parts such as plugs, alternator, spark arrestors, engine alignment, hoses, and blower among others.

Find out when did the boat get its last oil change? The boats engine condition can be determined from the color of its oil.

Check on the appraised value - Invite an appraiser to look at the boat and appraise its current market value. This will give you a head start on negotiating for the final price. If the boat is priced so far down the current market value, it could mean only one thing: the owner just wants to be rid of it. Find out why. A test drive should be done with the boat. A marine mechanic should be on board to hear and examine all the noises that the boat makes. Unless its driven, hidden defects may not be observed at all.

Tips About eliminator jet boat

Your boats seaworthiness can depend on the load you put in it and where you put it. Too much weight can overload your boat and cause it to become unstable or allow small waves to come aboard. It will also reduce the amount your boat can roll before its sides dip under. Weight that is carried too high will reduce stability, making your boat more apt to roll and less inclined to return to an upright position

Racing yachts try to reduce the wetted surface area, which creates drag, by keeping the hull light whilst having a deep and heavy bulb keel, allowing them to support a tall mast with a great sail area. Modern designs tend to have a very wide beam and a flat bottom, to provide buoyancy preventing an excessive heel angle. Speeds of up to 35 knots can be attained in extreme conditions. Dedicated offshore racing yachts sacrifice crew comfort for speed, having basic accommodation to reduce weight. Depending on the type of race, such a yacht may have a crew of 15 or more. Very large inshore racing yachts may have a crew of 30.
